- Using a small Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the screw securing the battery compartment cover. The screw is captive and will not detach completely.

2. פּראָגראַממינג די רימאָוט קאָנטראָל
The RM-KZ1 can control a television and/or a cable box. Programming involves entering specific codes for your devices and then assigning channels to the shaped buttons. It is recommended to program the TV first for power and volume, then the cable box for channel control.
- Accessing Programming Mode: Locate the small programming panel on the remote, usually secured by a screw. Loosen the screw and remove the panel to reveal the programming buttons.
- Programming the TV (Power and Volume):
- Refer to the code list provided with your remote (or search online for Sony RM-KZ1 TV codes). TV codes typically start with '0'.
- Follow the specific instructions in the full manual for entering the TV code. This usually involves holding a 'SET' or 'PROGRAM' button, entering the code, and confirming.
- Test the remote's power and volume buttons with your TV.
- Programming the Cable Box (Channels):
- Refer to the code list for your cable box. Cable box codes typically start with '1'.
- Follow the specific instructions for entering the cable box code.

- Assigning Channels to Shaped Buttons:
- Once the TV and/or cable box are programmed, you can assign up to 7 channels to the shaped buttons.
- Enter programming mode again (if necessary).
- Select a shaped button (e.g., Star).
- Enter the desired channel number using the programming interface. For best reliability with cable boxes, a 0.8-second interval for keying may be optimal.
- Repeat for the remaining 6 shaped buttons.
- Exit programming mode and replace the programming panel cover, securing it with the screw.
3. Volume Limiting Function
The RM-KZ1 includes a volume limiting feature to prevent excessively loud audio. This function can be activated during the programming process. Consult the full instruction manual for detailed steps on how to enable and set the volume limit, typically capping the maximum volume at a safe level (e.g., level 28).
