סעטאַפּ
Before beginning the tumbling process, ensure you have a functional rock tumbler. This kit provides the consumables for tumbling, not the tumbler itself.
- Prepare Your Tumbler: Ensure your rock tumbler barrel is clean and free of any residue from previous tumbling cycles.
- Select Rocks: Choose rocks from the provided Madagascar mix. For best results, select rocks of similar hardness and size for each tumbling batch. Avoid mixing very hard and very soft rocks in the same batch.
- Add Rocks and Ceramic Media: Fill your tumbler barrel approximately 2/3 to 3/4 full with a mix of rough rocks and ceramic media. The ceramic media helps cushion the rocks, reduce noise, and improve the distribution of grit. If your rock batch is small, use more ceramic media to fill the barrel to the recommended level.
Operating Instructions: The Tumbling Process
The rock tumbling process involves four distinct stages, each using a different grit size to progressively smooth and polish the rocks. Always clean the barrel and rocks thoroughly between each stage to prevent contamination from coarser grit.
Stage 1: Coarse Grind (Step 1 Grit)
דעם סtage is for initial shaping and smoothing of rough edges.
- Add the appropriate amount of Coarse Grit (Step 1) to the barrel with your rocks and ceramic media. Refer to your tumbler's instructions for exact measurements, or use the provided scoop.
- Add water until it just covers the rocks and grit.
- Seal the barrel and place it on the tumbler. Tumble for 7-10 days.
- Check progress daily. If the slurry becomes too thick, add a small amount of water.
- Once rocks are rounded and smooth, proceed to cleaning.
Stage 2: Medium Grind (Step 2 Grit)
דעם סtage refines the surface, removing scratches from the coarse grind.
- Thoroughly clean the rocks and the tumbler barrel to remove all traces of Coarse Grit. This is crucial to prevent cross-contamination.
- Add the Medium Grit (Step 2) and water as in Stagאון 1.
- Tumble for another 7-10 days, or until all visible scratches from Stage 1 are gone.
- Clean rocks and barrel meticulously before moving to the next stage.

Stage 3: Pre-Polish (Step 3 Grit)
דעם סtage prepares the rocks for the final polish, bringing out their natural luster.
- Again, clean rocks and barrel thoroughly. Any remaining coarser grit will ruin the polish.
- Add the Pre-Polish Grit (Step 3) and water.
- Tumble for 5-7 days. The rocks should start to develop a slight sheen.
- Perform a final, extremely thorough cleaning of rocks and barrel.
Stage 4: Final Polish (Step 4 Grit & GemFoam)
This is the final step to achieve a brilliant, mirror-like shine.
- Ensure absolute cleanliness of rocks and barrel. Even a single grain of coarser grit can scratch the polished surface.
- Add the Polish Grit (Step 4) and water.
- For an unprecedented shine, add the provided GemFoam to the barrel along with the polish grit.
- Tumble for 5-7 days.
- After tumbling, rinse the rocks and admire your newly polished gemstones!
Jewelry Creation
Use the included jewelry fastenings to turn your polished stones into unique necklaces, keychains, or rings. Follow the instructions provided with the jewelry accessories for assembly.

וישאַלט
Proper maintenance of your tumbling supplies and equipment ensures longevity and optimal results.
- Grit Storage: Store unused grit in the provided secure screw-top containers in a cool, dry place. Ensure lids are tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption.
- Ceramic Media: Ceramic media can be reused. Rinse it thoroughly after each stage and store it clean and dry.
- פאַס רייניקונג: Always clean your tumbler barrel thoroughly between grit stages. Use a brush and water to remove all grit particles. Do not dispose of grit down household drains as it can cause clogs. Dispose of slurry responsibly according to local regulations.
- Rock Storage: Store rough rocks in a dry place. Polished rocks can be stored in display cases or used for jewelry.
טראָובלעשאָאָטינג
| פּראָבלעם | מעגלעך סיבה | לייזונג |
|---|---|---|
| Rocks not smoothing/shaping | Insufficient tumbling time; not enough grit; barrel too full/empty; rocks too hard for grit. | Extend tumbling time; ensure correct grit-to-rock ratio; adjust barrel fill level (2/3 to 3/4 full); consider using a more aggressive grit if rocks are exceptionally hard. |
| Rocks not polishing/dull finish | Grit contamination between stages; insufficient polishing time; not enough polish grit/GemFoam; rocks not smooth enough before polish stage. | Thoroughly clean rocks and barrel between stages; extend polishing time; ensure correct polish grit and GemFoam amounts; ensure rocks are perfectly smooth after Stage 3 before polishing. |
| Excessive tumbler noise | Barrel not full enough; lack of ceramic media. | Add more ceramic media or smaller rocks to fill the barrel to the recommended level (2/3 to 3/4 full). |
| Slurry too thick/thin | Incorrect water amount. | Adjust water level so it just covers the rocks and grit. Add small amounts of water if too thick, or drain some if too thin. |
