Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator PO-35 Speak User Manual

This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Teenage Engineering PO-35 Speak vocal synthesizer, sampler, and sequencer.

The Teenage Engineering PO-35 Speak is a compact vocal synthesizer, sampler, and sequencer designed for portable music creation. It features a built-in microphone for sampling, 8 distinct voice characters, and a 16-step sequencer.

2.1. פּאַוערינג אויף

The PO-35 Speak requires two AAA batteries (not included). Locate the battery compartment on the rear of the unit.

Insert the batteries into the compartment, observing the correct polarity (+/-). The device will power on automatically once batteries are correctly installed.

The PO-35 Speak includes a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones or external speakers, and a 3.5 mm audio input for syncing with other devices or external sampling.

The PO-35 features a grid of 16 buttons, two parameter knobs, and dedicated buttons for געזונט, מוסטער, BPM, רעקאָרד, FX, שפּיל, און שרייב. Familiarize yourself with these controls for optimal use.

3.2. שampling Vocals

The built-in microphone allows for direct vocal sampling. To record, hold the רעקאָרד button and speak into the microphone. The PO-35 provides 120 seconds of sampלינג זכּרון.

3.3. Voice Characters

The PO-35 offers 8 unique voice characters to transform your sampled vocals:

  • נייטראַל
  • אַוטאָטונע
  • רעטראָ
  • ראַש
  • ראָבאָט
  • פינפטע
  • וואָקאָדער
  • סינטה

ניצן די געזונט button and the parameter knobs to select and adjust these voice characters.

3.4. Sequencing and Pattern Creation

The 16-step sequencer allows you to create rhythmic patterns. Press the מוסטער button to select a pattern slot (1-16). Press the numbered buttons (1-16) to add steps to your sequence.

Adjust the tempo using the BPM button and parameter knobs.

3.5. Effects (FX)

Apply various effects to your sounds and patterns using the FX button. The PO-35 includes 8 different effects.

3.6. Syncing with Other Devices

The PO-35 Speak can be synchronized with other Pocket Operators or external devices using standard 3.5mm stereo audio cables. Connect the audio output of one device to the audio input of another to create a synchronized setup.

3.7. MicroTonic VST/AU Transfer

The PO-35 supports MicroTonic VST/AU transfer. This allows you to transfer VST files via the microphone or line-in jack to create new drum sounds. The MicroTonic Plug-In is sold separately.

When the battery indicator on the display is low, replace the two AAA batteries. Ensure the device is powered off before replacing batteries to prevent data loss or damage.

  • Ensure headphones or external speakers are properly connected to the 3.5mm audio output.
  • Verify volume levels on both the PO-35 and any connected audio equipment.

  • Ensure the built-in microphone is not obstructed.
  • Check available sampling memory. If full, delete old samples or transfer them.
